Abstract: Richard Burr and Dianne Feinstein, chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released a draft of the Compliance with Court Orders Act. It aims to balance the value of strong encryption with the supremacy of the law and an obligation of existing entities to comply with court orders to produce “information or data for the investigation or prosecution of specified serious crimes,” emphasizing that “no entity or individual is above the law.”
